Manchester United have announced that they have agreed a fee in principle of 85m euros (£73m) with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

The 21-year-old England winger Sancho is expected to sign a five-year contract with the option of a sixth with the Red Devils.

He will finalise terms and complete a medical after England’s Euro 2020 campaign comes to an end.

The fee is payable over five equal instalments. This will see Sancho become the second most expensive English player of all time behind United captain Harry Maguire.

Maguire joined United from Leicester for £80m in 2019 to become the most expensive defender of all time.

Manchester City will earn 15% of the profit that Dortmund will make on Sancho. Sancho joined the Bundesliga club for £10m four years ago. This means that the Premier League champions will earn about £9.5m from the Sancho deal.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified four key positions he wants to improve in a bid to win th Premier League next season.

Sancho had been United’s primary target since last season but did not give into Dortmund’s demands of paying over £100m in a pandemic-affected year.

Familiar faces at Old Trafford

They decided to wait it out and were fortunate enough to pick him up this season for a much lower fee. The right-winger is just 21 years of age and is extremely close to Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Rashford was delighted to see his England teammate sign for the club and expressed the same on Instagram saying, “Family… Welcome brother”.

Sancho will unite with fellow Euro 2020 teammates Luke Shaw and Maguire as well at Old Trafford. With this trade all but wrapped up, the club is now targeting Raphael Varane.

The French international has not renewed his contract with Real Madrid yet and is expected to leave the club. If Varane joins the Red Devils, he will reunite with Paul Pogba.

United are also on the lookout for a central holding midfielder and right back.
