PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING

English Premier League Betting

The Premier League is hands down the most-watched football league in the world and probably were the biggest money is rolled, and not just on transfers or footballer wages but Premier League betting as well.

Some would claim the UK and the Premier League are the Mecca of sports betting. It almost seems modern football history began here and it is in this market was most tipsters and punters like to spend their time.

For a fact, all of the tipsters that we follow on this site seem to be from places inside of the UK, not only for their slang on social media where they live and dine but the second tier leagues they follow in Wales, Scotland and second divisions from the Premier League… even the college leagues.

Let’s face it, online UK Premier League betting seems to have more followers than Sunday church. English folk love betting, and you will learn how to do it like a pro.

BETTING TIPS FOR THE PREMIER LEAGUE

Betting on the Premier League is quite easy if this is your first time ever the first thing is opening a sportsbooks account. You can open accounts with several long-lived sportsbooks to hunt for better odds!

Once you get your account up and ready and you have learned to place your first bet and what the different bet types are, it’s time to define a betting strategy.

FOOTBALL BETTING STRATEGY

A betting strategy for the Premier League should be no different than any other league, but there are some key aspects to keep in mind.

MOST COMMON SCORE

The most common score in the Premier League is 2  – 1 for home games.

The English Premier League is an offensive lover, speedy football of quick passes. It is not a slow control ball freak league, the obsession with most clubs seems to be “score, and score fast”. Players move quite easily from the first half of the field and most of the gameplay takes part just outside the goal courts.

The English Premier also has, along with the other top leagues in the world, the highest average of goal attempts. The mood of the fans and the pressure to score keeps the players with high revolutions.

It has always been said that the Premier League is the toughest league of all for the quality in the players and amount of highly competitive clubs.

0–0 might still be one of the most common score lines in the world of football, but not in the Premier League.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS

One can make a clear distinction between the Premier and La Liga, even the Bundesliga. While in Spain Real Madrid and Barcelona play a tournament of their own against clubs that can never rival them for the main trophy, in the Premier League, there are multiple teams that are in similar competitive conditions to fight for the title each year. Here are the 20 teams in England’s top flight, currently.

Aston Villa has a rich history. The club has won the English First Division League (before the Premier League era) on 7 occasions. They have won the FA Cup 7 times and the League Cup 5 times as well.

Birmingham City are Villa’s biggest rivals but with Birmingham failing to make it back into the Premier League, the odds of the teams facing off is limited to the FA Cup and League Cup, and there is no guarantee that they would face off in these competitions either.

Aston Villa is currently captained by one of England’s best players – Jack Grealish and Dean Smith is in charge of the squad as Manager.

Villa managed to stay in the Premier League since its inception in 1992 till 2016. They made it back to the first division after a 3-year hiatus, in 2019 to survive relegation on the last day of the Premier League season.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club was founded in 1901. Brighton played its football in the Southern League till 1920 when the club was finally elected into the Football League.

It has been a rollercoaster of a ride for Brighton. The “Seagulls” as they are nicknamed, played First Division football for the first time in 1979 till 1983 before getting relegated. They managed to reach the 1983 FA Cup final, which they lost to the famous Manchester United.

Brighton fell all the way down to the 4th division of English football in the late 1990s mainly due to the financial difficulties the club was facing. The Seagulls narrowly avoided relegation from the Football League to the Conference (National League).

Brighton fought through the period of difficulties and back-to-back promotions in 2001 and 2002, saw them move up to the second tier of English football. In 2011, the Seagulls finally moved into the Falmer Stadium – 14 years after not having a permanent ground!

In 2016-17, Brighton finished 2nd in the EFL Championship to gain promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history and just its second spell in England’s top flight.

Burnley’s chairman in the 1950s-1970s, Bob Lord, invested in a training ground, which made the club one of the first teams to do so.

Burnley has a lesser-known but successful history in English football nonetheless. They have won the English league title twice – 1920-21 and 1959-60. The Clarets also have won the FA Cup all the way back in 1913. The team’s greatest achievement to date has got to be in the European Cup in 1960-61 when they reached the quarterfinals.

Burnley is just one of four clubs to have managed to have won all 4 professional divisions of English football alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United and Portsmouth.

The Clarets’ league title win in 1959-60 made Burnley the smallest town to have won the English first tier. Burnley plays its home games at Turf Moor and has been doing so since 1883 after moving from Calder Vale.

Burnley’s biggest rivals are Blackburn Rovers but Blackburn are currently in the EFL Championship so the only time the teams can really face-off is in the cup competitions. The club is managed by Sean Dyche and captained by the central defender, Ben Mee.

Crystal Palace was originally rejected by the Football League in 1905 when they turned professional, which meant that they had to play in the Southern League. In 1920, however, they did gain an entry into the Football League and have spent most of their history in the top 2 tiers of English football.

Palace plays its football at Selhurst Park and the club is managed by the very experienced, Roy Hodgson. The Eagles are captained by Serbian midfielder, Luka Milivojevic and have some of the best talents from Africa in Ivory Coast’s Wilfried Zaha, Senegal’s Cheikhou Kouyate, and Ghana’s Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp.

Everton FC was a founding member of the Football League as well. The club is the second-longest continuous serving club in England’s top division, behind Arsenal who has been in the top flight since 1919.

Everton has won 9 first division titles but none of them has come in the Premier League era.

Fulham won the Southern League before joining the Football League for the 1907-08 season. It took Fulham 42 seasons to reach the first division of English football for the first time!

1949 was when Fulham got its first taste of the top division. They managed to stay in Tier 1 till the 1951-52 season after which, they were relegated to the 2nd division. Fulham managed to stay afloat in the 2nd division till 1958-59 when they secured promotion back into the 1st division. After a good 10 season spell in the top flight, the time had arrived for the London club to get relegated once again as they moved back down in 1968.

Fulham was relegated right away to the 3rd division the following season but found its way back the following year. The club finally managed to come back to the top flight in 2001 after spending time as low as the 4th division before this.

The club had a good run in the Premier League from 2001 to 2013. Unfortunately, they were relegated to the Championship for the 2014-15 season. They fought back up in 2018-19 but were relegated right away but managed to move back up for the 2020-21 Premier League season.

Against all odds, Leicester City went on to win the Premier League title in 2015-16! They are only 1 of 7 clubs to have won the Premier League title.

Before this, their best-ever finish came back in 1928-29 when they finished runners up in the league. Leicester has 3 League Cups to its name but has never won the FA Cup.

Leicester City made its UEFA Champions League debut in 2016-17 and became the first English team to win away on their Champions League debut, and win all three of their opening games in the competition. They also created history by becoming the first team in Champions League history to keep clean sheets in their opening 4 games of the competition!

On 25 October 2019, the Foxes set the record for the biggest away victory in the English First Division, defeating Southampton 9–0 at the St. Mary’s Stadium. In doing so, they also tied the record for the biggest victory in Premier League history, equalling Manchester United’s 9–0 home victory over Ipswich Town in 1995.

Brendan Rodgers is the manager for Leicester City and the team is captained by Jamaican centre-back, Wes Morgan.

Leicester boasts of top talents like Youri TielemansJames Maddison and of course, Jamie Vardy. The club played its football at the Boleyn Ground from 1904 to 2016. The ground was popularly known as Upton Park and was located in East London.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves were founded in 1877 as St. Luke’s FC. The club is based in the West Midlands of England.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers play their home games at the Molineux Stadium and have been doing so since 1889.

The club was another of the founding members of the Football League and has won the English league title 3 times, all in the 1950s, under Stan Cullis.

Wolves have won the FA Cup on 4 occasions but their last victory came back in 1960. Their last major domestic trophy came in 1980 when they won the League Cup for the second time.

The club has a rivalry with West Bromwich Albion, known as the Black Country Derby. Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo deserves plaudits for the resurgence of Wolves and sustained success in England’s top flight. The club is captained by English defender, Conor Coady.

Wolves also have one of the best defenders in the league currently, in Moroccan captain – Romain Saiss. Willy Boly from Ivory Coast is the other African player in the first-team.

Premier League Outright Winner

Never take anything for granted in the Premier League. Leicester City won the 2018 Premier League title, in their second year after getting promoted! On a given day, any team can beat anyone in the Premier League and it is never a bad option to bet against the favourites in the world’s most popular football league.

Manchester City are generally the favourites given the amount they have invested in players and with Pep Guardiola as their manager. Liverpool has been the strongest team in England in recent times under Jurgen Klopp while Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are going through a rebuilding phase.

Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City seem to be dark horses. They are both well-managed sides with Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers at the helm, respectively and can make it very difficult for the other top sides.

Everton is looking to challenge having strengthened their attack under Carlo Ancelotti. The league is wide open at the moment and highly unpredictable.

This is a great time to be a Premier League bettor!

MANCHESTER UNITED BETTING

Manchester United Betting

Manchester United betting has become a paradox lately. Manchester United has been, by far, the most successful club in England since the start of the Premier League. 13 Premier League titles, one after the other and if not runner-ups in 5 other occasions. But after the retirement of legendary manager, Alex Ferguson, United have never been the same.

Sir Alex Ferguson seemed to be the key to success for the Red Devils. According to Forbes, Manchester United is one of the most valuable clubs in the world alongside Real Madrid and FC Barcelona with a yearly revenue of over $700 million! This is enough to buy any player they desire in the world as long as Barcelona or Real Madrid do not get in their way.

MANCHESTER UNITED BETTING TIPS

“Ole is at the wheel” for Manchester United now and they have been the best team in the country since the arrival of Portuguese playmaker – Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno’s impact has made him a fan favourite and he is arguably the best player in the Premier League since his arrival in Manchester. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, current Manchester United manager and Manchester United legend, has been criticized for seemingly not having tactics, however, the results and table prove otherwise. They have been one of the best teams in England and score a lot of goals.

Their problem lies in keeping clean sheets. This United side is the closest to Sir Alex Ferguson’s in terms of attacking football. They are relentless. With the attacking prowess of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and the likes, the Greater Manchester side is always a threat.

Solskjaer’s side thrives on counter-attacking football and that is the reason they have succeeded against the big teams but have struggled against teams that “park the bus” or sit back defensively with a deep line.

Betting on Manchester United against the “Big 6” is good if they are not the favourites. Betting against United is not a bad idea either given that they will be favourites more often than not. Style of play of the opposition can be crucial and also the strength of teams in set pieces. Man United have struggled in defending free-kicks, corner kicks and crosses so are exposed to conceding often.

Over 0.5 Goals and 1.5 Match Goals is not a bad idea either. United’s games seem to include a lot of goals both made and taken.

ARSENAL BETTING

Arsenal Betting

Arsenal suffered a fate very much like Manchester United with the main difference being that United has been a supreme club for almost all of its history while Arsenal became the best club in England for a few years only. However, those happy years were enough to make them one of the clubs with the most followers in the world after Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus.

Remember the days of Thierry Henry and company? Arsenal was full of stars, World Cup winners and football skills that was love at first sight for fans of faraway places like Bacha Lagvilava of Georgia.

Although the club remains one of the strongest in the Premier League and the world, it tends to escort the big brothers more often than beat them. With Mikel Arteta at the helm, Arsenal is going through a rebuilding phase so it will be interesting to see how things turn out in the near future.

Question marks have been raised on his capabilities as a manager but the owners have chosen to stick by the Spanish man who spent a lot of his playing career in North London for the Gunners.

Betting on Arsenal is definitely worth it especially now, with the odds not being as low as you’d expect with the Gunners.

ARSENAL BETTING TIPS

Arsenal has been very inconsistent in recent times. Our analysis is that key players are too crucial for the club’s performance, especially the goalkeeper and the strikers.

Arsenal’s defence always seems vulnerable. The Gunners have always been overly-dependent on their goalkeepers, but when they get injured or the defence begins to break, it is not uncommon for Arsenal to concede more than 2 goals a game. It has happened in the Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League almost every season over the past decade.

Bet on Arsenal to win against smaller teams. Their squad is still too talented to not bet on.

Draw or Win against the big clubs only when they have been in form and their rivals have looked shaky. Do not expect Arsenal to perform at their best when their main players are out.

Following that last tip, it is not the worst idea to bet against Arsenal after the international break, as their star players may be a little fatigued or jetlagged. Arsenal tends to concede a lot of goals during these periods, but watch closely if their opponent has what it takes.

CHELSEA BETTING

Chelsea Betting

Chelsea is not as big as Manchester United or Liverpool but they are arguably the strongest side in London but could never be called the best club in the world, even though they have one UEFA Champions League title to their name.

Chelsea betting is a tricky one at the moment. They splurged in the 2020 summer transfer window spending over $320 million on strengthening the squad but have looked far from being a challenger for the league. Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United look much better than the Blues.

With their greatest ever player, Frank Lampard, taking over as manager, Chelsea have looked inconsistent this season and there seems to be no fluency in their play. The manager’s team selections have been puzzling and Chelsea does not look a threat like they used to.

Even with the likes of Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner, Chelsea have failed to live up to the expectations so far. Their best player and top goalscorer – Olivier Giroud comes off the bench for most games, which makes no sense.

A very volatile team, Chelsea fails to maintain its status in a greater magnitude than the other heavyweights in English football at the moment, and it feels like Frank Lampard has to be held responsible for the same.

CHELSEA BETTING TIPS

Chelsea cannot seem to beat the top teams in the Premier League under Frank Lampard. However, their team is too strong to lose to the teams in the bottom half and that is what they have been dependant on so far to pick up points.

The fact that they fail to beat the teams in the same bracket as them is what currently makes them a mid-table side. You can definitely bet on clubs that are higher in the table like Leicester City to beat the Blues.

Chelsea games will almost always have goals, much like the Premier League in its entirety so a 1.5 goals bet in a Chelsea game is a good option.

MANCHESTER CITY BETTING

Manchester City Betting

Manchester City is a force to reckon with. The “Noisy Neighbours” or Manchester United – City has become the team to beat in England. With Pep Guardiola at the helm, the team has looked extremely consistent and can crush any opposition on a given day.

City backed up their major spending unlike Chelsea with domestic success. They have made the League Cup their own by winning most of them in the last decade, they have also won the league on a few occasions and won the domestic treble in the 2018-19 season. However, the Champions League still eludes the Citizens. City has still not made it past the quarterfinals stage of the competition despite their star-studded squad with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, and many more.

Manchester City can be considered one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League right now and are always favourites to win.

MANCHESTER CITY BETTING TIPS

Having one of the best squads in the Premier League, betting on Manchester City to win against smaller teams is a given. We can even suggest to include City on Doubles and Accumulators for their consistency.

Over 0.5 Goals or 1.5 on all of their matches is more often than not, a sure shot bet. City scores a lot of goals and has a solid defence with Ruben Dias and John Stones at the centre of defence.

City can make the top 6 look mediocre on their day and tend to bully teams with their ball possession and swift passing. A win or draw bet against these sides if the odds are good is definitely a good bet.

City to score first. This is another given usually. Man City dominates possession so is always likely to score first unless caught on the counter but there are only a handful of teams that can punish them on the counter by taking their chances like Manchester United and Liverpool.

LIVERPOOL BETTING

Liverpool Betting

Liverpool has become a force to reckon with since Virgil van Dijk signed for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool won their first Premier League title in 2019-20 as they were head and shoulders above the rest. They also won the UEFA Champions League in the 2018-19 season, their 6th overall, to extend their record of the most Champions League titles for an English club, now 3 ahead of bitter rivals – Manchester United. This title win came 14 years after the “Miracle of Istanbul”.

With Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino leading the attack, Liverpool are dangerous and always look likely to score.

Liverpool has thrived on its history to bring in talent and the Kop atmosphere at Anfield is too tempting to resist. In terms of Liverpool betting, they are only second to Manchester City in terms of odds and you would not want to bet against them on any given night.

OTHER PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS BETTING

These are the main clubs to bet on in the Premier League. Others that can be counted on to win more often than not are Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Everton. These clubs are always challenging for European places and are trying to sustain their places over a significant period.

They are, by no means, overpowered by the top clubs like in other leagues. Spurs beat Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford in what United fans consider a blip in 2020. The Premier League is highly competitive and long shots here do draw and win games against top clubs.
