Arsenal has reportedly entered talks over a deal to appoint Maurizio Sarri as the manager next season to take over from Mikel Arteta whose side has struggled in the Premier League.

According to Football Italia, Arsenal have opened talks with Sarri who masterminded Chelsea’s win against Arsenal in the Europa League in 2019.

The report adds that Sarri will replace the increasingly under-fire Arteta, who may be relieved of his duties after the 2020/21 season.

Arsenal are almost certainly not going to be playing in Europe next season, which will be the first time after 25 seasons as they were knocked out by Villarreal in the Europa League semifinals last night.

Sarri left Chelsea after winning the Europa League and took charge of Juventus where he won the Serie A but was sacked again due to failure in the UEFA Champions League.

Arteta won the 2020 FA Cup title with Arsenal and followed it up with a Community Shield victory over Liverpool but his team has been terrible in the league as they languish in 9th place and are in more of a fight for finishing in the top half of the table than qualifying for European football.

This has been the Gunners’ worst performance in the league since 1995-96 and it would be extremely surprising to see him still at the club at the end of this season.
