Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will become a superstar according to former Sporting Charleroi manager Mario Notaro.

The 70-year-old had the opportunity to work with the Nigerian international during the youngster’s loan spell at Charleroi where he spent the 2018/19 season.

Osimhen spent the season on loan from German club VFL Wolfsburg and he impressed during his spell with the club, racking up 20 goals in just 36 games for the Belgian side.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Osimhen secured a move to French club OSC Lille in July 2019 where he excelled before being grabbed by Italian giants SSC Napoli in a big-money transfer in July 2020.

Osimhen initially struggled at Napoli due to injuries and coronavirus-related problems, but he has found his feet and has 8 goals in 20 Italian Serie A games this season.

“I must say that you could already see he was very strong, Napoli has taken on a striker who will assert himself a lot,” Notaro said.

“I am convinced that he will become a top player in the world. He is truly extraordinary and has incredible quality, it is no coincidence that he is showing what he is capable of doing.”

Napoli signed Osimhen for a club-record fee of €70 million potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons, making him the most expensive African ever to date.

The 22-year-old, who is known for his incredible speed and finishing ability, has scored in three successive Serie A games against Lazio, Cagliari and Torino.

Osimhen and his Napoli teammates will now face Spezia on Saturday and the Nigerian will be hoping to continue his red-hot form as they push for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
