Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi is confident that the Super Eagles can win the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title as they prepare for their last two qualifier games.

The Super Eagles need just 2 points from their remaining to games to secure qualification into the finals of the AFCON, which will be hosted in Cameroon.

Nigeria will faceoff against Benin and Lesotho in Group L of the AFCON qualifiers. You’d expect the Nigerians to come out on top in both those fixtures comfortably.

Iwobi was a part of the squad that finished 3rd in the previous AFCON finals that were hosted by Egypt back in 2018.

The 24-year old, who now plays for Everton in England’s Premier League, is focused on bringing the trophy back home to the West African nation.

“The positive you can take is we are still on course to be top of the table, so we are confident we have the quality to do so and put 100% for 90 minutes this time, so we can qualify,” Iwobi said.

“The opportunity I was given last time to be involved in that competition, I want that feeling again. If you are in a competition you want to win it, [and] I believe us players feel we have the quality to do so.

“We’d like to play in the best competitions and win them so we have to prove that against Lesotho and Benin.”

Nigeria will face Benin at the Stade Charles de Gaulle in Porto-Novo on March 27th before heading home to Lagos to face Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on 30th March.

The Super Eagles have 3 AFCON titles to their name and will want to make it 4 next year as their last win came back in 2013.
