Burnley are in talks with Inter Milan defender Ashley Young over a return to England and in the Premier League on a free transfer.
The 35-year-old former England international Ashley Young left Manchester United for the Italian champions in January 2020.
Young was part of the Inter squad that won the Serie A title last season to end Juventus’ run of nine consecutive league titles.
With a cut in finances already leading to the exit of coach Antonio Conte, Young is considering his future as his contract expires this month.
It is understood he has spoken to the Clarets about a return to the northwest of England, although he does have other options, including remaining at Inter. Young has turned down two offers from Inter already as he may be tempted to head home now that he is in the twilight of his career.
His former club Watford who secured promotion to England’s top-tier of football for the 2021-22 season, are also interested in signing the veteran player. There are strong rumours going about that Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami are among the other clubs to have expressed an interest as well given the strong ties with Inter Milan.
Young will definitely prefer a move to Burnley if he wishes to return home given that he spent a lot of time in the northwest of England with Manchester United. Home is where the heart is, after all.
For an Englishman at 35 to turn down a return to the Premier League would seem criminal.
