Zimbabwe
The Zimbabwe national football team represents Zimbabwe in international football. It is governed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
ZIFA was established in 1979 but received FIFA affiliation in 1965 itself when the country was Rhodesia. Post-independence, Zimbabwe joined the CAF in 1980.
Zimbabwe’s football team is also a part of COSAFA and was a founding member of the same in 1997.
The Warriors have failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup but have qualified for the last 2 AFCON tournaments. Unfortunately, they have never managed to get beyond the group stages.
Zambia vs Zimbabwe is an entertaining rivalry for African football fans and is one to look forward to.
ZIFA has 10 provinces that have been split into 4 regions – Central Region, Eastern Region, Northern Region and Southern Region.
ZIFA Central Region Provinces: Matebeleland South, Midlands
ZIFA Eastern Region Provinces: Manicaland, Masvingo, Mashonaland East
ZIFA Northern Region Provinces: Harare, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West
ZIFA Southern Region Provinces: Bulawayo, Matebeleland West
The Zimbabweans have done extremely well within their region. They have won the most COSAFA Cups with 6 to their name. They almost made it 3 cups in a row before finishing 3rd in the 2019 competition.
