Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has claimed that Liverpool and Egypt superstar, Mohamed Salah is on Real Madrid’s summer transfer shortlist.

Salah’s contract does not expire till June 2023 but with rumours earlier on in the season of a rift between Jurgen Klopp and the Egyptian, you cannot help but lick your lips as a Madrid fan.

A couple of months back, Salah had mentioned that he would be interested in joining either La Liga giant – Real Madrid or Barcelona as he called them both “top clubs”.

Ramon Calderon served as Madrid President from 2006 to 2009 and confirmed that the Galacticos would love to sign Salah but indicated that they cannot afford him at this point in time.

“A great player and a goal scorer. He helped Liverpool by giving out his best, but I don’t think they will let him go,” Calderon said.

“It is expected that if they think about it, they will let him go only for a lot of money. Salah is wanted, of course, by Real Madrid, but Liverpool will ask for a lot of money, and if that deal is completed, it will be crucial.”, added the former Madrid President.

Salah has 24 goals already this season for the English champions in just 36 games across all competitions with 17 of them coming in the Premier League as he hopes to win his 3rd Golden Boot.

Madrid do have the money so this statement seems a little bit puzzling. The Spanish giants are the richest club in world football and if they want a player then more often than not, they do end up getting them.

After a poor season so far for Liverpool, Salah might be tempted to switch loyalties if Madrid do come calling. For now, however, the aim will still be for Liverpool to try and fight for top 4 and secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Else they will have to try and win their 7th Champions League title to cement their place in Europe’s elite competition.
