Less than a week since qualifying for the UEFA Champions League semifinal by beating Liverpool, a depleted Real Madrid side faced off against Getafe in La Liga and only managed to pick up a point as they drew 0-0 against the side that languishes in 15th in the table.

Thibaut Courtois had to be on top of his game as the Belgian international pulled of a number of important saves as a tired Real Madrid held off a spirited Getafe to earn a point that sees them sit 3 points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane is without several players either due to injury, suspension or COVID-19. Raphael Varane has been out due to contracting COVID-19. Captain Sergio Ramos had a muscle injury but then contracted the virus as well. Raphael Vazquez and Dani Carvajal has suffered injuries too, significantly depleting the Madrid defence.

Courtois pulled up a top save early on when he kept out Uruguayan Mathias Olivera’s effort from close range. The Belgian also tipped over Nemanja Maksimovic’s deflected effort late on to make sure Madrid earned a hard-fought point.

Vinicius Junior forced David Soria into making a save just before half-time but Los Blancos did not look really threatening as they usually would.

The draw means Real, who beat Barcelona last weekend and knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League in midweek, are two points ahead of Barcelona, who have a game in hand. The league title race could go down to the final gameday and these are exciting times ahead for Spanish football fans.
