Porto-vs-Bayern-MunichPorto vs Bayern Munich – Prediction

1-1 Draw, Despite their crippling list of injuries Bayern does start as the favorites at the Estadio do Dragao. They have been as dominant as ever in the Bundesliga and have eased through to the quarters of the Champions League without much trouble.

Bayern should win the tie over the two legs but Porto at home is a game that’ll test any team in the world and with the amount of injuries the German giants have been plagued by heading into this game we expect Porto to hold onto a draw but can’t see them stopping Bayern from scoring.

Betting Tips

  • The odds for a Bayern Munich win is at 1.83, while for a Porto it is at 4.7 and for a draw it is at 3.75. The game is to tight to call especially considering the amount of injuries Bayern have suffered so it’s better to skip the winner’s market for this.
  • Both teams to score at 1.95 looks a good bet but isn’t something I would put my money on. The fitness of Jackson Martinez will play a big part in this so look to see if he is fit before placing a bet on this.
  • Under 2.5 at odds of 2.15 is our best bet for this game Can’t really see Bayern pushing too hard they’ll play their usual game and see if they can nick one or two. For Porto it will depend a lot on the fitness of Jackson Martinez.

Porto

Jackson-Martinez

Porto will be hoping Jackson Martinez is fit for the clash as the striker has been in stunning form for them this season slotting in an impressive 26 goals in all competitions so far

Porto come into this game on the back of a 3-1 win over Rio Ave in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Saturday. In his debut season with Porto manager Julen Lopetegui is still in contention for winning a double with them still alive in the Champions League as well as being in the hunt for the Primeira Liga.

They are currently second in league table just 3 points behind defending champions Benfica. For now their attention turns towards the mammoth task of overcoming European giants Bayern Munich in the quarter finals of the Champions League.

They are undefeated in the competition so far in fact they haven’t been beaten in their last 10 games in this competition and progressed to quarters after beating Basel 5-1 on aggregate in the round of 16’s.

This will be Porto’s seventh quarter final appearance in this competition and of the previous 6 occasions they’ve reached here only twice have they been able to progress to the semi’s  but on each of those two occasions they went on to win the trophy with the last being in 2003/04 under Jose Mourinho.

Porto will miss the services of defender Ivan Marcano as he serves his suspension for picking up his third yellow card of the tournament against Basel. They could be further trouble with their leading goal scorer this season Jackson Martinez also in doubt with a groin injury.

Bayern Munich

Robert-Lewandowski-plus-Thomas-Muller-and-Mario-Gotze

In the absence of Arjen Robben the attacking trio of Lewandowski, Muller and Gotze has to shoulder the responsibility at the top. The trio has so far scored a total of 54 goals this season with 12 of them coming in the Champions League (twitter.com)

Bayern come into this game on the back of a 3-0 win over Eintracht in the Bundesliga on Saturday. They now have 10 point lead at the top of the Bundesliga and with just 6 games remaining in the season Bayern look destined to lift their 7th Bundesliga title in the last 11 seasons.

Bayern progressed through to the quarters after beating Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 in aggregate in the round of 16’s despite being held in the away leg to a 0-0 draw. This will be third of their 8 games they have to play with in a space of 24 days.

Bayern have kept a clean in 6 of their last 8 Champions League games. They have been exceedingly brilliant at the back over last few weeks conceding just four times in their last nine games in all competitions.

Bayern have never beaten in Portugal but they come into this game crippled by injuries. The likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, David Alaba and Bastian Schweinsteiger are all out and certainly won’t help their cause.

Defender Mehdi Benatia is also doubtful for the clash against Porto  but no matter the amount of injuries Bayern still start as favourites against Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.

This will be 26th quarter final appearance of Bayern in this competition and they have progressed to the semi-finals a total of 16 times. Xabi Alonso is available for selection again after missing out on the round of 16’s with a suspension.

Past Meeting

Both these teams have meet in the quarter finals of the Champions League twice (1990/91 and 1999/00) with Bayern Munich coming out on top in both those occasions.
