AC Milan failed to beat Cagliari in the Serie A – giving Juventus renewed hope of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League on the final day of the season.

Milan are currently in fourth place, level on points with third-place Napoli – who beat Fiorentina 2-0 earlier on Sunday thanks to Lorenzo Insigne and an own goal.

Stefano Pioli’s side were held to draw by Cagliari, who picked up their first away point against Milan since 1999 and what a time to get it as it could hamper Milan’s chances of their Champions League qualification for the first time since 2014!

Juve are now one point behind Milan. Wins for Napoli and AC Milan on the final day would deny the Bianconeri a Champions League place for the first time since 2011-12.

However, Milan face an extremely stern task against second-placed Atalanta – who have already booked their Champions League place. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured and ruled out of Euro 2020, they have found it difficult to score goals.

If either Milan or Napoli fail to win then Juventus would finish in the top four as long as they beat Bologna. Napoli face Hellas Verona next and will be expected to come away with the 3 points.

Having said that, Juve have been extremely inconsistent this season and although they overcame champions Inter Milan – who ended their nine-year title reign this season – 3-2 in a thrilling match on Saturday, there is no guarantee that the same Juventus side will turn up for the final league game of the season.

Andrea Pirlo’s job is at stake and things are a complete mess for the record Italian champions as they have already been warned of being suspended from the Serie A if they choose to play in the Super League.
