Turkey captain Burak Yilmaz scored twice as Lille came back from 2 goals down to beat Lyon in a thrilling game to go back to the top of Ligue 1.

Algerian striker Islam Slimani gave Olympique Lyonnais a first-half lead with a finish into the top corner at the 20-minute mark before Jose Fonte’s own goal made it 2-0 after 35 minutes.

As it seemed like Lyon would go into the break with a 2-goal advantage, Burak Yilmaz delivered for the away side in the first minute of stoppage time before the interval to make it 2-1.

He scored with a superb strike from distance as Lille went into the break with their tails up. Jonathan David made it 2-2 at the hour mark and that meant that there was a whole half hour to decide this game.

Lille finally managed to snatch a dramatic win in the 85th minute courtesy of a terrific Yilmaz lob that finished off a comeback victory from 2 goals down to move them back on top of the French league title race.

Victory means Lille go one point clear of PSG at the top with just four games remaining. AS Monaco is also in the mix in third place, just 2 points behind the leaders.

Lyon’s failure to beat Lille dented their hopes of challenging for the title as they now sit 6 points behind their opponents. A win for Lyon would have tied them on points with Lille and kept them 2 points behind PSG.

This is how the Ligue 1 title race looks.

  1. Lille – 73 points
  2. PSG – 72 points
  3. Monaco – 71 points
  4. Lyon – 67 points
