Luiz Suarez scored his 500th career goal to give La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid an important victory in the title race after the UEFA Champions League disappointment against Chelsea.

The Uruguay forward reached the milestone by heading home Englishman Kieran Trippier’s cross in the 54th minute.

The game was not all that easy for the home side and they needed every bit of luck and skill from their superstar goalkeeper Jan Oblak to secure the 3 points in their race for lifting the Spanish league title once again under Diego Simeone.

Oblak saved a late penalty that was taken by Joselu to ensure that the club from Madrid stayed 4 points clear at the top of the table. Barcelona thumped Real Sociedad 6-1 at San Sebastian to stay in the hunt as the pressure mounts on the league leaders with 10 games to go in the league.
