Fantastic news for Kenyan football fans as one of their footballers – Harun Shakava, has returned home to play in the FKF Premier League for his former club – Gor Mahia.
Harun Shakava returned home just 4 days after being released by Zambian side Nkana FC and has joined K’Ogalo on a 2-year contract. Shakava will be reunited with the team that he had 5 stellar seasons with before moving to Zambia in 2019.
Gor Mahia has struggled on the defensive end this season, leaking goals and Shakava’s experience can prove vital into rectifying this problem. Gor Mahia’s secretary-general Steve Ochola has confirmed, “We have finished the deal with Harun [Shakava] and he is now our player again”. “We have handed him a two-year deal and we are happy to have him in the squad again.”
He also went on to say, “We hope his experience will help the team do well in the FKF Premier League and also in the CAF Confederation Cup, where we want to go past the group stage.”
Ochola also expressed contentment at the fact that Shakava will be eligible to play in the CAF Confederation Cup stating, “He is eligible to play for us in the [CAF] Confederation Cup and it is another reason why we felt he can be of help to us. We want to use his experience at the backline which has not been performing well in recent matches”.
Gor Mahia football fans will be excited to see their defender back home where he enjoyed a successful spell before leaving the country.
Harun Shakawa is still young aged just 27 but has lots of experience. He won the Premier League title with Gor Mahia every season barring 2016 when Tusker won the league.
Prior to his 5 years at Gor Mahia, Shakawa started his senior professional career at Kakamega Homeboyz. He was part of the squad when the team was promoted from Division One into the Premier League.
The big defender from Kenya will be keen on leading his side to success once again and try to stake a claim to making the international squad once again.
