Manchester City manager Josep “Pep” Guardiola was all praises for Riyad Mahrez saying that the Algeria captain is of “special quality” after the 4-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
The champion manager paid tribute to the Algerian after a man of the match display as City made it 21 consecutive wins in all competitions after their 4-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League.
Mahrez has been in terrific form lately and was at his scintillating best against Wolves at the Etihad Stadium in the city of Manchester.
Mahrez scored the third goal for the Citizens and also created the first goal that was turned in by Leander Dendoncker for an own goal.
As Guardiola reflected on the game, which saw City now going 28 games unbeaten in all competitions, the Spanish tactician was not shy of praising his winger.
“The last games were outstanding. He played really well. He has a special quality,” said Guardiola.
“He is a guy who dances on the pitch. He doesn’t lose balls on the pitch. He makes the extra pass.
“He attracts opponents on the pitch and after, he makes a pass in behind. He makes fantastic crosses. We knew it,” he added.
“At Leicester City, he was outstanding with Jamie Vardy. That’s why we pushed for him. We hope he can continue.”
Riyad Mahrez has become an integral part of this Manchester City side and has significantly contributed to his side’s success during this run of 28 games unbeaten. He has displaced Bernardo Silva permanently in Guardiola’s first-choice team.
Algeria fans will be hoping that their captain can keep this form up as they prepare for the AFCON qualifiers.
