Euro 2020 Group F: Portugal 2-4 Germany

Germany bounced back in style at Euro 2020 as they tore Portugal apart. It was an impressive attacking performance in Munich as they beat the defending champions 4-2.

Germany’s win means both these sides now sit on three points. They are both one point behind group leaders France. There is all to play for heading into the final round of fixtures on Wednesday.

Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens was terrific for Die Mannschaft with a goal and an assist. He earned a huge ovation from the Allianz Arena crowd as he was replaced just after the hour mark.

Cristiano Ronaldo had put Portugal ahead, continuing his record-breaking campaign. It was his third goal of the tournament and the 12th European Championship strike of all time.

Portugal’s defending was woeful

However, two own goals in the space of five minutes changed the game completely as Germany started controlling proceedings. Ruben Dias scored an own goal in the 35th minute and then Raphael Guerreiro turned the ball into his own net in the 39th.

The Germans went into the break leading 2-1. Gosens played in a superb low cross after the break that allowed Kai Havertz to tap in from close range in the 51st minute.

The fullback then headed in Germany’s fourth himself before being substituted off with a commanding 4-1 lead.

Diogo Jota found the net as the Portuguese pulled one back just 7 minutes later as Ronaldo turned assist-man but the defending champions were unable to do more than that.

Germany host Hungary, who earlier on Saturday held France to a draw, while Portugal face France in the final game with all four nations still fighting for their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2020.
