Scotland were knocked out of Euro 2020 in their final group stage game as they were comprehensively beaten by visitors Croatia at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Both teams needed a win for a chance to progress to the last 16 and it was Croatia who struck first blood. Nikola Vlasic gave the 2018 FIFA World Cup finalists an early lead after just 17 minutes.

Scotland came back just before halftime to level things up as Callum McGregor scored with a thunderbolt strike that got the home fans excited and hopeful.

The teams went into the break all-square at 1-1. Croatia were the better side for most of the game and got the lead they deserved after 62 minutes. Captain and most-capped player Luka Modric scored with a delightful first-time shot before Ivan Perisic put the game beyond doubt 15 minutes later.

The Inter Milan winger headed home from a corner as Croatia notched their first-ever win over the Scots.

Croatia’s 2-goal victory meant that they secured second place in Group D of Euro 2020. They finished behind England who finished with 7 points and just ahead of the Czech Republic on goals scored.

England, Croatia and Czech Republic have all secured their place in the last 16 of Euro 2020.
