The 2020-21 UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg between Real Madrid and Chelsea saw the Blues picking up an important away goal as they earned a draw at the Alfredo di Stefano stadium in Madrid.

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring after 14 minutes to put Chelsea ahead as they notched up an away goal before Karim Benzema scored a wonderful goal to bring Los Blancos level.

Chelsea were the better side as they created several opportunities to score more goals but failed to take any of them, including a terrible miss by Timo Werner. The result, however, still gives Chelsea the advantage and they deserved at least a draw after the first leg against Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel’s side was far superior on the night and will look to secure their spot in the UEFA Champions League final as they go in with an advantage at Stamford Bridge in a week’s time.

The winner of this semifinal will face either Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain in Istanbul, Turkey on 29th May 2021.

American Christian Pulisic kept his cool to steer home a clever finish at the 14-minute mark but Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema brought the home team back into the game with a brilliant equaliser.

The Frenchman brought the ball in control with his head before sending an acrobatic volley that beat Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy just before the half-hour mark.

Chelsea was the much better side in the second half as well but could not create any clear goal-scoring opportunities like they did early on.

“Even if we had won here, everything is possible,” Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said.

“It’s half-time and we’ll have to fight for every centimetre and every advantage that we want to have and we need to fight and deserve it.”
