Cameroon beat Nigeria 1-0 in an international friendly match on Friday thanks to a winning goal by Fulham’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Both countries were dominant in their respective groups during the qualifying stage for next year’s 2021 CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and these friendlies against the top sides will only benefit each other as preparation for next year’s competition.

Despite the win, it has been a bit of a struggle for the next AFCON hosts in their last two international matches as they only managed a 0-0 draw against Rwanda and suffered a surprising rough 3-1 loss against Cape Verde.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles may have lost to the Cameroonians but they will still come into next year’s AFCON as one of the favourites given their strong attackers that include Kelechi Iheanacho, Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen.

Nevertheless, both Cameroon and Nigeria got a good Friday warm-up as they prepare for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The teams will go head-to-head once more on Tuesday for another friendly match as they edge closer to an important year or so for African football.
