Kaizer Chiefs secured a place in the CAF Champions League final in their first-ever appearance in Africa’s premier club competition.

The South African club held onto a 0-0 draw in Soweto against favourites Wydad Casablanca of Morocco. This was enough to qualify 1-0 on aggregate following a first-leg away win in the CAF Champions League.

AmaKhosi will now face their biggest-ever test in the final as they go up against Al Ahly. The Egyptian giants are the defending champions and record CAF Champions League winners.

The nine-time champions are in familiar territory as they look to win their tenth African title. Pitso Mosimane’s side cruised past ES Tunis in the semifinals.

They won their first leg 1-0 in Rades. They then head home to crush the Tunisian club 3-0 in Cairo. This 4-0 aggregate win has sent out a clear message to the Chiefs.

Chiefs have now become the third South African club to qualify for the CAFCL final. Mamelodi Sundowns and age-old rivals Orlando Pirates have reached the final on two occasions each.

The Kaizer Chiefs had a disappointing domestic season as they finished 8th in the South African premiership. However, they can undo all that by winning Africa’s biggest club competition.

Al Ahly coach Mosimane was quick to share his thoughts on his final opponents.

“Kaizer Chiefs are a mysterious team, despite occupying a low place in the South African league, they qualified for the CAF Champions League final. It is difficult to study them because they score a lot of goals and concede a lot of goals,” Mosimane said in an interview in Cairo as per KingFut.

He was active on social media sharing a tweet offering motivation to his own side as well.
