Egyptian giants Al Ahly continued to show why they are the club to beat in the continent as they won yet another trophy on Friday as they beat Renaissance Berkane of Morocco 2-0 to win the CAF Super Cup.
It was a record-extending seventh Super Cup win for Ahly. This adds to their record nine titles in the African Champions League, making them Africa’s most successful team.
Mohamed Sherif scored the opening goal for the Red Devils in Doha with a powerful left-foot shot just before the hour mark.
Substitute Salah Mohsen was played in clear and he made no mistake as he rounded the Berkane goalkeeper before scoring into an empty net to secure the victory in the 82nd minute for the defending champions.
Al Ahly were competing as CAF Champions League winners while Berkane won last season’s CAF Confederation Cup, which happened to be their first major continental title.
The odds were heavily in favour of the Egyptian and African champions and they did not disappoint with a strong performance to lift the African Super Cup.
