Defending champions Al Ahly take a narrow lead going into their 2020/21 CAF Champions League semifinal second-leg match against Esperance de Tunis following a 1-0 win at Stade Olympique de Rades on Saturday.

Mohamed Sherif netted the match-winner in the 67th minute for Pitso Mosimane’s side in Tunisia to come away with a huge victory in the CAF Champions League.

Al Ahly had the ball in the back of the net at the half-hour mark through Sherif. His attempt, however, was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Mohamed El-Shenawy was then called into action to deny the hosts with a fabulous save. This kept the game level at 0-0 heading into the half-time break.

Sherif then scored what could prove to be a vital away goal for the nine-time champions. Aliou Dieng burst forward from deep. He then played a pinpoint through ball into the path of Sherif who hit the post with his first attempt.

Luckily for him, the ball fell kindly back to him as he passed the ball into an empty net with his second attempt.

The second-leg will see the defending champions host ES Tunis at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo on Saturday, 26 June. The aggregate winner will face either Wydad Casablanca or Kaizer Chiefs in this year’s CAF Champions League final.

Chiefs have a slim 1-0 advantage that they will look to protect at home in Soweto after the first leg.
