Sunderland vs West Brom – Sunderland to win it 1-0, Sunderland are looking desperate and nothing but a victory will make their fans happy. West Brom have been in a good run of form ever since Pulis took over but they haven’t lit the stage on fire when playing away from home.
2015 has not been kind to the Black Cats; they have only managed to pick 4 points in their last six premier league games and in their last Premier League game became the first team to lose points to QPR at home. They crashed out of the FA Cup in their last game losing 2-0 to the high flying Bradford City.
These horrendous runs of results have left Sunderland lying dangerously close to the relegation zone and a couple more bad weeks will see them in the relegation zone. Most of the Pundits are backing Gus Poyet to be the next manager to get the sack.
This match versus the Baggies is crucial because a defeat or a poor show here will probably mean it will be Poyet’s last match as the manager of Sunderland.
There are some positives for Poyet heading into the match, their Captain Lee Cattermole is set to return after recovering from his groin and Knee injuries also, Defoe who had missed Sunderland’s 5th round FA Cup exit versus Bradford City will also make a comeback to the team.
Sunderland doesn’t have a great record versus the Baggies having won only once in the last four of times they played against them at the Stadium of Light. Their recent home form has been dreadful losing three out of the last four matches.
Sunderland are second to last in the table when the number of goals scored are considered. They have managed only 24 goals from 25 matches at an average of 0.88
If Sunderland are struggling then the baggies are flying ever since Pulis took over as manager the team has looked confident and the results on the pitch are an evidence for it. Since Pulis took over they have managed to pick up 8 points from five matches with just one loss against Tottenham.
They are coming into this match on the back of a 4-0 win over Premier League rivals West Ham. Baggies are four points clear of the relegations zone. Saido Berahino has been in excellent form for them scoring 16 goals in all competitions with 10 of them coming in the league.
Victor Anichebe will definitely be out for West Brom but Youssouf Mulumbu who had picked up an injury during the Africa Cup of Nations might make a return.
West Brom have won more matches against the Black Cats than any other team in the Premier League but the Baggies haven’t won any of their last seven away matches in the league.
These two teams met each other during the opening day of the season and the match ended as 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns. Cattermole scored first for Sunderland that day but West Brom went 2-1 ahead courtesy of a brace from Berahino but Sunderland came level with an 85th minute goal from Sebastian Larsson.
