Sunderland-vs-NewcastleSunderland vs Newcastle – Prediction

0-0 Draw, The second and last Wear-Tyne derby of the season sees two rivals that are struggling and in desperate need of points. Newcastle have ensured Premier League safety mainly due to their early season performances while Sunderland are losing ground as each week passes by.

Sunderland after this game have to play 5 of the top 8 in the last 7 matches so this a match were they must get the 3 points. It’s going to be a tight nervy game and we can see both these teams cancelling each other out.

Betting Tips

  •  The odds for a Sunderland win are at 2.5 while for a Newcastle win is at 3.1.
  • Our Suggestion however is for you to place a low stake bet on a draw which is at 3.3
  • Under 2.5 is another great bet for this game as we can’t see too many goals being scored here.

Sunderland

Adam-Johnson

Sunderland come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat against the Hammers two weeks back, The Black Cats have been dropping like stone and are currently 17th in table and lying dangerously above the drop zone.

If they don’t get back to winning ways against Newcastle they couldn’t find themselves in one of the relegation spots by the end of the week.

Sunderland have won just one and lost 7 of their 11 Premier League matches this calender year. Dick Advocaat has a tough job at hand to rescue a ship that has been sinking all season long.

In the last 6 seasons relegation contenders who have changed their manager with less than 10 games remaining in the season have usually found themselves getting relegated by the end of the campaign. The only exception here is Sunderland itself that survived under Pablo Di Canio in 2012/13 season.

Sunderland do have good record against Newcastle heading into the derby on Sunday. They’ve won all 4 of their last meetings against their arch rivals.  Sunderland however head into this match with a miserable scoring record having not scored in 4 of their last 5 games at the Stadium of light.

Sunderland will welcome Lee Cattermole back into team after the midfielder completed his two game ban. However the likes of Wes Brown, Giaccherini and Will Buckley remain out for the Black Cats

Newcastle come into this game on the back of 2-1 loss against Arsenal before the International break. They played well against the Gunners but failed to get anything out of the game and are now on a three game losing streak heading into the derby on Sunday.

Newcastle like their Sunday’s opponents have had a miserable 2015 so far with them having won only 2 and lost 6 of their 11 games this year.

John Carver’s hopes of retaining the Newcastle job on a permanent basis have all but gone and now has the task of guiding a team with more injured players than fit ones to the end of the season without further embarrassments.

Newcastle have not won any of their last 6 Wear-Tyne derbies against Sunderland losing four of them. Newcastle’s only win against Sunderland in the last 8 meetings between the teams came way back in 2011 when Ryan Taylor scored the only goal of the game.

There is some good news for Newcastle with the return of Mehdi Abeid after recovering from a thigh injury. However the likes of Siem de Jong, Paul Dummett, Steven Taylor, Cheick Tiote and Massadio Haidara all remain out for Newcastle.

Past Meeting

The last time these two teams meet this season at St.James’ Park Sunderland won the game 1-0 with Adam Johnson scoring the winner in the 90th minute.

Where they are in the table

12th – Newcastle – 30 matches – 35 points – (-15 GD)
