Tottenham-vs-Aston-VillaTottenham vs Aston Villa – Prediction

In a week in which we have the Manchester derby coming up Spurs’ clash with Villa for me is the most exciting game of the week. Both teams come into this desperate for points but that is only part of the story. Spurs’ hopes of a top 4 finish are slowly but surely fading and desperately need the three points here to keep in touch with teams above them.

The game also sees the return of Tim Sherwood to his former club. Sherwood is still feeling hurt after his premature sacking from Spurs at the end of last season. He would want to prove a point and also grab some much needed points for his Villa team that are still very much in the middle of the relegation battle.

Betting Tips

  •  The odds for a Spurs is at 1.6, a Villa win at 6.25 and a Draw at 4. It’s better to stay away from the winners’ market as it is one of those game were anything can happen.
  • We can this game having goals in it so we suggest you place an over 3.5 bet which is at an odd of around 2.63
  • Both teams to score is another good bet for this game which is at an odd of 1.91

Tottenham

Harry-Kane

Spurs come into this game after being held to a 0-0 draw by Burnley last week. Tottenham as in the past season have continued their habit of taking two steps backwards after taking a step forward.

They are currently 7 points behind Manchester City in 4th and afford any more slip-ups till the end of the season however standing in front of them are a rejuvenated Aston Villa side led by their former manager Tim Sherwood.

Spurs have let in more goals than any other team in the top 12 have and that is part of the reason for another mediocre season.

The biggest and brightest spot for Tottenham and perhaps for English football has been the form of England International Harry Kane who has slotted home 29 goals this season in all competitions.

Another goal for Kane would mean he would be the first Tottenham player after English Legend Gary Linkear to score 30 or more goals for Tottenham in a single campaign.

Tottenham and won all their last 5 games against Villa and are unbeaten in their 12 league meetings till date with 9 Wins and 3 Draws.

Tottenham come into this game on a 10 game unbeaten run at home stretching all the way back to November when Stoke beat them 2-1.

Hugo Lloris is still a major doubt for Tottenham while the defensive duo of Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen remain out with a foot injury and fever respectively.

Aston Villa

Christian-Benteke

Benteke is the man in form for Villa with 7 goals in his last 5 games (express.co.uk)

Villa come into this game on the back of a 3-3 thriller against QPR on Wednesday. They have picked up just one point from their last three games in the league and are in real danger of getting dragged into the bottom three by the end of the week.

Having to play this game with just two days of rest will also not help the Villains cause. They are still alive in the FA Cup and will face Liverpool in first leg of the semi-final next Sunday however Premier League survival for now should be their first priority and need something for this game.

The sub-plot heading into this game is the return of Tim Sherwood to White Hart Lane. Revenge is on the eyes of the former Spurs manager who did a decent enough job with them last term but still ended up getting the sack at the end of the season.

Six more points maybe enough for Survival this season and they do have some winnable games left against West Ham, Burnley and Everton in the season.

Last time Villa won at Tottenham was way back in 2008 when they got the win 2-1. Villa are still 9 points away from their lowest ever Premier League points tally of 38.

Villa will be boosted by the return of full-back Aly Cissokho but will still miss the likes of Alan Hutton, Scott Sinclair, Carles Gil and Ashley Westwood heading into the game.

Past Meeting

The last time these two teams met this season Spurs’ ended up coming from behind to take the win 2-1. Weimann gave Villa that lead early in the first half but Spurs won the game with two goals late in the second half from Chadli and Kane respectively. The other note-worthy incident in the game was Benteke being send-off.

Where they are in the table

6th – Tottenham – 31 games – 54 points – (+ 5 GD)

16th – Aston Villa – 32 games – 29 points – (-22 GD)
