Liverpool-vs-NewcastleLiverpool vs Newcastle – Prediction

2-0 Liverpool win, A fixture that hasn’t produced a single goalless draw in the Premier League era yet most of the troubles both these teams are having this season is due to the lack of goals/goalscorers. Liverpool have definitely missed a Luis Suarez-esq presence upfront while Newcastle are desperately missing Loic Remy.

Liverpool desperately need to the win to keep their hopes of a top 4 finish afloat and for Newcastle it’s all about finishing the season in a respectable way and putting another poor season behind them. Liverpool should get the win but it should be a tighter game than many are expecting it to be.

Betting Tips

  •  Liverpool are the overwhelming favorites to win the game at the odds of 1.45. The odds for a Newcastle win is at 9.50 and for a draw is at 5.10. We can’t see Newcastle getting the win or even getting point but the odds for a Liverpool are low so you can just skip the winner’s market for this game.
  • The Under 2.5 at the odds of 2.20 looks a good bet, who is gonna score for both these teams? Can’t see a genuine goal scorer in both these teams.
  • Fancy Liverpool holding a Clean sheet? The both teams to score No is at 1.91

Liverpool

Jordan Henderson

Interim Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson comes into this game having scored 4 in his last 5 premier league games (express.co.uk)

Liverpool come into this game on the back of a 1-0 FA Cup quarter final win against Blackburn Rovers on Thursday. They have the FA cup Semi Final to look forward to but before that they’ll face Newcastle with the hopes of rekindling their Top 4 hopes.

For a team that went undefeated in the league for nearly 4 months Liverpool have suffered back to back defeats first at the hands of Manchester United and then got went on to get thumped by Arsenal.

They are now 7 points adrift of 4th placed Manchester City and with only 7 games left in the season it may prove to be a difficult task for the Merseyside Reds.

The contract situation of Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson has also not helped in improving the mood around the Liverpool contingent.

They have a fairly easy run of games till the end of the season expect for a trip to Stamford Bridge so all is not lost for The Reds.Liverpool had scored 84 goals at this stage last season compared to their 45 this season.

Liverpool will be boosted by the return of Jordan Ibe after missing out on six weeks of action due to a knee injury. However Adam Lallana is still not fit enough to make return.

Emre can also returns from suspension but the duo of Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard sit his one out serving the third of their three game suspension.

Newcastle

John-Carver

Newcastle have managed to pick only 8 points from a possible 27 under John Carver (telegraph.co.uk)

Newcastle comes into this game on the back of a 1-0 derby defeat at the hands of Sunderland. It was their fourth consecutive derby defeat against their neighbors and the morale at St James’ Park is at an all-time low.

They’ve lost their last four games in a row and have managed to pick up only 9 points from a possible 36 this calendar year.

You have to feel for John Carver whose hopes of getting the job on a permanent basis have been crushed. You can’t really blame the Newcastle man with the amount of injuries and suspensions they have been plagued by.

A victory against their old foes can greatly help their cause for a strong finish to the season. The last time Magpies won at Anfield was way back in 1994 when they beat the Merseyside giants 2-0.

Goals have been hard to come by for the Magpies with them scoring only 4 in their last 8 games. Newcastle should have their defender Daryl Janmaat available despite a minor calf trouble.

Past Meeting

The last time these two teams met this season Newcastle ended up taking the win at home with the help of a lone goal from Ayoze Perez.

Where they are in the table

6th – Liverpool – 31 games – 54 points – (+ 9 GD)

13th – Newcastle – 31 games – 35 points – (- 16 GD)
