Liverpool

Steven-Gerrard

Liverpool come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win over Swansea City last Monday. They are currently sitting 5th in the table just two points behind Manchester United in 4th who at one point in the season had a 10 point lead over them.

They are the only team in the Premier League that remain undefeated  this calendar year. Liverpool haven’t been  beaten in the league since their defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford back in December going on to win 10 out of the 13 league games since then.

Liverpool’s defense were under constant scrutiny last season. Part of the reason for Liverpool finishing 2nd last season was their inability to keep teams out. The Reds had the same troubles earlier on in the season but have gone on to keep 7 clean sheets in their last 9 league games.

Mignolet has been in top form for the Reds who pulled off two absolutely brilliant saves against Swansea City that kept Liverpool in the game. The Belgium keeper has kept a total of 12 clean sheets in the league this season which is the 2nd best record in the league behind Fraser Forster.

Rodgers does have some selection headaches heading into the match on Sunday, Gerrard is fit again for Liverpool and played an impressive cameo against the Swans.

Gerrard should play from the start simply because he is big game player and no other Liverpool player will have more determination than Stevie G to hurt Manchester United one last time before he bids adieu to the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard has scored 7 goals in his last 11 league games versus Manchester United he is also Liverpool’s joint top scorer along with Raheem Sterling this season with 10 goals.

Lucas Leiva is fit again for Liverpool and back in traning after missing the last few weeks with a groin injury but he is not fit enough to feature against Manchester United

Mario Balotelli should be back for Liverpool after recovering from a cold that kept him out of the clash versus Swansea City.

Manchester United

Wayne-Rooney

Wayne Rooney is United’s top scorer in all competitions this season with 13 goals. (Telegraph)

United come into this game on the back of one of their best performances of the season thrashing fellow top 4 contenders Tottenham 3-0.

With United still having to play the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal this the season the game versus Liverpool will be crucial and can’t afford anything other than a win.

It hasn’t been pretty but United have managed to win 6 out of their 8 games with just one loss during that time. They’ve rarely played to the best of their abilities but have still managed to get results week in week out.

Manchester United have won only one of their last seven meetings against Liverpool at Anfield losing five of those seven games.  United will be pinning their hopes on their captain Wayne Rooney who has once again been their no.1 player this season. Michael Carrick who turned in all fine display against the Spurs need to win the midfield if United are to have any chance.

United’s recent away form has been a huge worrying after managing to win only two of their last 7 away games in fact United have won only 4 away games all season. It will be interesting to see if Van Gaal decides to put Di Maria backin the team after he returns from suspension.

Defender Johny Evans is still out serving the 2nd of his 6 game ban for spitting on Newcastle United’s Pappis Cisse while the  defensive duo of Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are fit for United but may not be risked to start the game.

Past Meeting

The last time these two team met this season United won the game 3-0 thanks to goals from Rooney, Mata and Van Persie. United keeper De Gea was the real star of the show pulling of some really unbelievable save to keep Liverpool out.

Where they are in the table
