Liverpool vs Manchester City Prediction

Liverpool-versus-Manchester-City2-2 draw, this result isn’t going to help both these teams but both of them look tired from their respective midweek matches in Europe.

Liverpool are out of Europe for  this season following their loss against Besiktas while Manchester City needs to score at atleast two goals in Nou Camp to progress when they face Barcelona again in two weeks.

If any team is to win this it will be Liverpool who are on the kind of form that got them within touching distance of the title last season.

Philippe Coutinho will return for the clash against Manchester City while the fitness of Henderson will assessed

Liverpool come into this match on the back of difficult loss to Besiktas in the Europa League. Liverpool who had won the first leg 1-0 lost the second leg 1-0 and then lost the tie 5-4 on penalties.

After 9 successful penalties from both teams Dejan Lovern stepped up for Liverpool to take the 5th penalty for the team and what happened next explained how Lovern’s time with Liverpool has been. He skied the shot and Liverpool are out of the Europa League.

Liverpool now faces the difficult task of hosting the current league champions Manchester City just two days after their Europa League exit.

Liverpool are the best team in the Premier League on current form winning 5 out of their last 6 league games and are unbeaten in their last 10 league matches (7 wins and 3 draws). Liverpool are also the only Premier league team that are still unbeaten this calendar year.

Liverpool won the same fixture last season in what was one of the games of the season, the win took Liverpool within touching distance of the Premier League title only to lose out in the final few weeks.

Liverpool need to win the game if they are to keep the pressure on the teams above them in the table.

Liverpool will be boosted by the return of Philippe Coutinho who was rested during their Europa League tie. The duo of Glen Johnson and Lazar Markovic are also available for the game after missing out on the clash versus Besiktas.

Have to wait to see if Jordan Henderson will make it as he has not been deemed fully fit from his ankle injury.

Manchester City

Sergio-Ageuro

City’s lone scorer against Barcelona and will be key if they are to get a result at Anfield

Like Liverpool, Manchester City are also heading into this week’s clash on the back of a European defeat. The defending Premier League champions suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Barcelona midweek and now look forward to the daunting task of a scoring atleast two goals at the Nou Camp if they are to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Manchester City have scored 9 goals in there last two league games and are now showing signs of returning to form. Chelsea being held by Burnley last week meant that City are again within 5 points of the League Leaders.

If City are to win this match then they would close the gap with Chelsea to just 2 points. Chelsea are not playing in the league this week due to League Cup final commitments.

City has done it before, coming back strong in the latter part of the season to win the title. It is what they did in the 2011/12 season and again in the 2013/14 season.

City’s hasn’t won a single match at Anfield in their last 12 visits there. It’s the only premier league ground where City haven’t managed to pick up a since win since the Dubai takeover in 2008.

City has the best away record in the league this season losing just once to West Ham in October.  The last time City won at Anfield was back in 2003 when a certain Nicolas Anelka struck twice in a come from behind victory.

Past Meetings

The last time these two teams met this season, City registered a comfortable 3-1 victory with the help of a brace from Jovetic and one from Sergio Aguero. The lone goal for Liverpool was an own-goal scored by Zabaleta.
