Lionel-Messi

Lionel Messi

Barcelona registered their 11th consecutive win all competitions by thrashing Levante 5-0 in the La Liga on Sunday. The win helps Barca keep pace with current league leaders Real Madrid who are one point ahead of them.

The game was all about one man though a certain Lionel Messi who made his 300th senior appearance for Barcelona since debuting in 2004.

The Argentine playmaker was not the first to score though but certainly played a part in it by providing the assist to Neymar who converted calmly in the 17th minute giving them the lead. From then on it was all the Messi show.

Messi doubled Barca’s lead in the 38th minute after latching in on a Marc Batra pass. Fifteen minutes into the second half Messi went on to score his second goal of the game by converting from a Pedro assist.

Messi finally completed his hat-trick in the 65 minute by converting a penalty that Barca earned after Neymar was brought down in the box. It was an astonishing 31st career hat-trick for Messi who incredibly is still just 27 years old.

Luis Suarez rounded off Barca’s great day in the field by scoring the 5th for Barca in the 73rd minute through an incredible overhead kick. It was a special day for Pedro as well who also marked his 300th appearance for the club.

Messi Magic

It was certainly a great day for the four time Ballon d’Or winner who has now scored 269 goals for Barca in his 300 appearances for them, an average of 0.9 goals per game.

Messi now has 37 goals in all competitions this season.

Messi made his official debut for Barcelona in the 2004/05 season in a friendly match against Portuguese club Porto. Messi made his first appearance in the La Liga against RCD Espanyol back in 2004 when he was 17 years and 117 days old. This made him the youngest player to have ever played in the La Liga then.

Messi scored his first senior goal versus Albacete Balompie in May, 2005.Messi fought his way up the Barcelona ranks to be first team regular by the 2006/07 season.  Messi scored a memorable hat-trick in the El Clasico that earning his team a point in a entertaining 3-3 draw –

And as they say – the rest is history…

By 2015, Messi is now a four time Ballon d’Or winner winning it consecutively in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. He has won the La Liga 6 times, the Champions league 3 times and numerous other team and individual accolades. Messi was named the FIFA player of the World Cup and awarded with the Golden Ball in 2014 but his team Argentina finished runners-up to eventual champions Germany.

One thing is for sure the best of Messi magic is yet to come but the question is whether it will be for Barcelona or for some other club.

Here is something completely unrelated to the topic but it’s damn funny! It’s Qatar airways ad featuring Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Iniesta and Gerard Pique. Enjoy!
