The French striker was stretchered out of White Hart Lane after he collapsed on the pitch just minutes into Swansea’s clash versus Spurs.

Gomis collapsed after his team had fallen behind by a goal versus the Spurs. As the game was about to be restarted Gomis seemed to faint and fall to the ground.

Gomis was treated on pitch for nearly five minutes and by the time he was stretchered off the ground he was conscious. This is not a onetime thing with the French striker as he has fainted on pitch numerous times before.

He fainted during a training session with the French national team way back in 2009 and similar episodes of fainting have taken place while he was at Lyon as well.

Gomis made the switch to Swansea from Lyon at the start of the season and has made 24 appearances for the Swans so far this season and has scored two goals for them.

After the departure of Wilfred Bony in the Summer Gomis is now Swansea’s number one striker.

Update

After being stretchered off the field Gomis was taken to hospital where he received further treatment. Gomis has now himself come forward to reassure everyone of his condition. He was quoted as saying

“I have been under a great deal of stress and fatigue due to my father’s health that requires me to go back and forth to France.”

‘I was disappointed that I couldn’t help my team tonight but now everything is back In order

‘I also want to thank everyone for their support and get Well messages .’

He further added: “I wanted to reassure you concerning my health. It actually looks much more scary than physically dangerous. I am feeling well now.”

Gomis-Collapse

Swansea went on to lose the game 3-2 in his absence. After the game the Swansea manager Garry Monk commented on Gomis’s situation “We understand his history. He has had all the tests but it’s just part of his life, it’s what he’s been through growing up.”

The whole stadium at White Hart Lane fell silent as Gomis was treated on field. The fans feared the worst and brought memories of 2012 back when Bolton player Fabrice Muamba collapsed to the ground during a FA Cup tie versus Spurs after suffering a cardiac arrest. Muamba recovered but has never played football again.

Gomis is known to have these episodes of fainting due to a long-standing vasovagal condition. However he should be ready for action when Swansea play their next match on the 16th against Liverpool.
