Everton vs WatfordEverton vs Watford – Prediction

Everton to win 2-1, Everton have a tough run of games to start off the campaign but can’t afford another slow start like last season as they might find themselves to far from the rest of the pack. The Toffees have been laying low all summer making just a couple of signings but do have a squad capable of pushing for one of the European spots.

It has to be said Watford are kinda pulling off a QPR from last season. Looking at the players they have signed individually they all are very good players who could easily steer the Hornets away from relegation trouble but how long will they take to come together as a team? It is this question that’ll determine the fate of Watford’s season.

Betting Tips

  • The odds for a Everton win is at 1.73, for a Watford win at 5.6 and for a draw at 4.00
  • Everton do have the more settled squad and hence are rightly the favorites in the bookmakers eyes. 1.73 on an Everton win is not a bad bet to make.
  • Our top tips for the game are Over 2.5 which is at 1.92 and Lukaku to score which is at 2.5

Pro Bettor Edgar Rusi’s Betting Tips: – Everton win and under 2.5 ( Consider placing a small stake on a draw)

Everton

Roberto-Martinez

With the tough run of games to follow Roberto Martinez and his men must make sure to kick-off the campaign on a positive note with a win against Watford (telegraph.co.uk)

After the highs of the 2013/14 campaign when they managed to finish 5th in the table the 2014/15 season was massive let down for the club and Roberto Martinez. Everton could only manage a 11th place finish after spending most of the season around the relegation zone.

Last campaign was the first time that Everton had finished the season in the bottom half of the table since the 2005/06 season. This season around Martinez and his club have no distraction of European football and hence are expected to push back into the top 6.

Everton has been Premier League’s most lazy team in the transfer window making just two new signings – Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona and Tom Cleverly from Manchester United with the latter being on a free transfer.

Everton have a really diffcult run of games to start of the season having to face the top 7 from last season in their first 10 games. Everton have won all their previous nine meetings against Watford in all competitions.

Last season in the opening 7 games Everton managed to pick up only 6 points from a maximum 21(1W, 3D and 2L)

Everton’s new signing Deulofeu is a major doubt for the game as he is nursing a hamstring injury. John Stones who is on the wishlist of all the top premier league team is expected to feature as is Kevin Mirallas.

Everton’s other new signing Thomas Cleverly is expected to make his debut for his club but the duo of Steven Pienaar and Muhamed Besic are expected to sit out.

Watford

Troy-Deeney

Troy Deeney led Watford’s promotion bid last season scoring 21 goals in the championship but can he make the step up to the big time? (bbc.co.uk)

Watford have been the busiest Premier League team in the transfer market having made 10 new signings to their squad. It will be interesting to see how Quique Flores brings together a group of players that have virtually no experience playing together.

Watford have been a part of the Premier League in two other occasions,  once in 1999/00 and then again in 2006/07 and in both those seasons they got relegated in the first attempt itself.

It will be interesting to see Watford’s starters for the game against Everton. The forward line of Troy Deeney and Matej Vydra should remain the same however as many as 6 new faces could make their debuts for the club on Saturday.

Jose Manuel Jurado has recovered from his muscle injury and is available for selection for the Hornets. The duo of Almen Abdi and Steven Berghuis will miss out due to injuries while Miguel Britos remains sidelined due to suspension.

Past Meeting

Both these teams met on the opening day of the 2006/07 season( Watford’s previous season in the Premier League) and Everton went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Andrew Johnson and Mikel Arteta. Since 2006/07 Watford have never tasted defeat in the opening day of the season.

How they finished last season

11th – Everton – 38 games – 47 points – (-2 GD)

2nd – Watford – 46 games – 89 points – (+41 GD)
