Everton-vs-NewcastleEverton vs Newcastle – Prediction

Everton to win 1-0, Everton need this win. They have been doing fairly well in Europe and that has certainly taken a toll on their league performances. They come into this on the back of 2-1 over Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday and face them again midweek but they need a result against Newcastle here as they are dangerously slipping down into the relegation battle.

On the other side John Carver looks a worried man as he tries to rally his troops for a strong finish to the season in the hopes of keeping his job come the start of the next campaign.

Everton are undoubtedly the biggest under-performers of this season. Many had expected Everton to have a mediocre season but to see them so close to the relegation battle and that to at this stage of the season is truly shocking.

At the same stage last season they had 51 points compared to their 28 they now have. The only plus point for Everton this season has been their European form and are the only English team that remain in the Europa League in fact they are the only English team that realistically has a chance of winning European silverware this season.

They come into his game after beating Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 in the first leg Europa league round of 16 clash in Goodison Park and will once again face the Ukrainian side at their home turf this Thursday in the return leg.

Their last two results in the league have been two back to back 2-0 defeats to Arsenal and Stoke City respectively. Everton fans can take comfort in the fact that they have a fairly easy run of games till the end of the season .

Everton have won just once since Christmas in fact they’ve won just one of their last 12 Premier League games also the Toffees are still to win a home game in the Premier League this calendar year.

They have a long list of players out due to injuries and suspensions which include the likes of Gareth Barry, Bryan Oviedo, Aiden McGeady, Steven Pienaar and Tony Hibbert.

Leon Osman, John Stones and Leighton Baines are doubtful for the match.

John-Carver

Newcastle have won just two of their six games that John Carver has been in charge off (Skysports)

Newcastle come into this match on the back of hard fought 1-0 defeat against Manchester United last week. Ever since John Carver officially took over they’ve won twice, lost twice and drawn twice in six Premier League games.

Newcastle have won only once and lost 7 times in their last 11 trips to Goodison Park . Their last win was back in the 2010/11 season when Hatem Ben Arfa scored the sole goal for Newcastle.

Papiss Cisse is out for Newcastle as he serves the first of his seven game ban for spitting on United’s Johny Evans.Their list of injured absentees include Cheick Tiote, Steven Taylor, Siem de Jong, Massadio Haidara and Paul Dummett.

Newcastle however will be boosted by the potential returns of Rob Elliott, Jack Colback and Remy Cabella.
