Franck-Ribery

Bayern come into this match after beating Hannover 96 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday. They went a goal down before clawing their way back and running out as comfortable winners.

On Wednesday Bayern Munich will hope to move one step closer to a fourth finals appearance in the Champions League in their last six seasons. They won all their last three league matches since the first leg stalemate versus Shakhtar.

Bayern will definitely start as the big favorites especially since they’ll be playing in the Allianz Arena. Bayern need to win the game if they are go through and will be wary of a tough Shakhtar team.

Bayern are currently 11 points of VFL Wolfsburg who are in second place in the Bundesliga. The only time Bayern were knocked out of the Champions League after drawing the first leg 0-0 was way back in 1981 when Liverpool eliminated them after the second leg ended in a 1-1 draw at home.

Spanish Midfielder Xabi Alonso will be missing for Bayern after he was send-off during their first leg at the Lviv Arena. Franck Ribery may make return to the starting 11 in place of Mario Gotze.

 Shakhtar Donetsk

Taras-Stepanenko

Taras Stepanenko could make a return to the Shakhtar 11(Shakhtar)

Simply said, if Shakhtar were to win the game on Wednesday then it would be one of the greatest upsets in Champions League history but getting a result at the Allianz Arena will be task that is next to impossible.

Shakhtar come into this match after being held to a 2-2 draw by Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukrainian Premier League on Saturday and are currently second in the league behind Dynamo Kyiv.

Taras Stepanenko is available again for Shakhtar after missing the first leg through suspension however the likes of Ivan Ordets, Yaroslav Rakytskiy and Serhiy Kryvtsov may sit out due to injuries.

Past Meeting

The first leg at the Arena Lviv ended in a 0-0 draw with the highlight of the match being Xabi Alonso send-off after being booked twice in the game.
