Bayer vs AtleticoPrediction

Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid – Atletico Madrid to win 2-0, Bayer will raise their game for the Big European clash but Diego Simeone’s men will prove too strong for the German side. Atletico meanwhile will want to put the match to bed in the first leg itself but i don’t see Bayer getting mauled.

Bayer comes into this match on the back of a 2-2 draw versus Augsburg in Bundesliga action on Saturday. They are 6th in the Bundesliga table two points behind Schalke in 4th.

Bayer qualified for the knockouts of the Champions League after finishing as runners-up of their group behind AS Monaco. Bayer has never made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament since 2002.

Omer Toprak will be missing for them because of suspension. They will also be missing Robbie Kruse, Tin Jedvaj and Lars Bender.

Leverkusen have not scored in the last 197 minutes of Champions League football and this is worst goal drought among the teams still left in the competition.

The South-Korean forward Son Heung-min has scored the most goals for Bayern – 14 in all competitions till date (5 in the Champions League).

Atletico Madrid

Atletico come into this match on the back of a convincing 3-0 victory against strugglers Almeria in the La Liga. Atletico qualified for the knock-outs after finishing 1st in their group ahead of Juventus, Olympiakos and Malmo FF.

The defending Spanish Champions and Champions League runners-up are 3rd in the La Liga 7 points behind Real Madrid in 1st.

Atletico have not conceded a goal in the Champions League for 5 consecutive matches and will be looking to extent their run to 6 matches here. Mario Mandzukic has been their leading scorer in all competitions scoring 18 overall with 5 of them in the Champions League alone.

Atletico will surely miss the midfield maestro Koke for the trip while Tiago still remains a doubt for them. Atletico made it to the Champions League knockouts for the second time consecutively for only the first time in their history.

They look on track to do one better than they did last year.

Past Meetings

These two teams meet previously in the Europa League group stages of the 2010/11 season. Both their matches ended in 1-1 draws.
