Arsenal v Liverpool FC – Prediction

A game which promises goals and end to end action - Arsenal v Liverpool - Match of the Week - Premier League - Gameweek 1

On paper Arsenal and Liverpool are two of the most exciting teams in the league. The matches between these two never fail to entertain with their 3-3 draw last season being one of the games of the season. Arsenal do look the stronger unit despite their fragile defense however Liverpool are team running on the Klopp factor. Liverpool will spring the surprise and come out as the winner. The only thing you can count on is goals with the kind of attacking talent that’ll be on display from both sides.

Verdict: Liverpool Win – (2-1)

Fixture Overview

Betting Tips – Arsenal v Liverpool

1. Winner/Draw

Arsenal – 2.45 (Ladbrokes)

Liverpool – 3.5 (Betfair)

Draw – 3.55 (Marathon Bet)

Arsenal start as the favorites as per the bookies. The Gunners are the runners-up of last season and have a squad oozing with talent. Liverpool though are no easy push overs, the club and it’s supporters are riding the Klopp wave and we expect them to kick off the season on a high. The injury troubles in the Arsenal ranks outweigh those at Liverpool and the Merseysiders should get the win.

A draw seems a good bet as well. So feel free to look the other way if you are picking Arsenal or a draw.

2. Both teams to Score

Yes – 1.73 (Betfair)

No – 2.38 (Boylesports)

The odds are low for both these teams to score but it’s a sure winner in our eyes. The attacking talent on both sides are too good for neither team not to score.

3. Anytime Goalscorer – Sadio Mane – (3.75) – Ladbrokes

The Senegalese international has been Liverpool’s marquee signing this summer. A player who can be hot and cold has been handpicked by Jurgen Klopp and should kick off the season with a bang. Whether he’ll able to continue it for the rest of the season is another question.

4. Over/Under – Goals

Over 2.5 – 1.83 (Marathon Bet)

Under 2.5 – 2.13 (Marathon Bet)

Over 3.5 – 3.10 (Betvictor)

Under 3.5 – 1.44 (Betfair)

We expect goals and lot of it. Over 2.5 seems a given but if you are brave enough go for over 3.5.

5. Match Special – A Goal in each half – 1.80 (Skybet)

Arsenal

Granit Xhaka has been Arsenal's key signing this summer so can he prove his worth in the Premier League - Arsenal v Liverpool - Key Player - Betting Tip

Granit Xhaka (Pic Cou: skysports.com)

Arsenal come into this game on the back of 3-2 win over Manchester City in a pre-season fixture last Sunday. The Gunners looked impressive in pre-season and will be looking to end their 12 year drought without a league title. Apart from the additions of Granit Xhaka from Monchengladbach and Rob Holding from Bolton the club has been quite in the transfer window.

Arsenal come into this game considerably crippled by injuries and Sunday could see Calum Chambers and Rob Holding covering as the centre-backs. Newly appointed Captain Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, Carl Jenkison & Danny Welback are out injured while the duo of Laurent Koscielny & Olivier Giroud are not match fit to feature on Sunday

Arsene Wenger who enters his last year of contract with Arsenal FC will need a considerably better performance this season not just in their placing during providing them with either League or European success.

Arsenal do have the upper hand in recent meetings with Liverpool winning 5 and losing 1 of their last 10.

Arsenal come into this season on a 10 game unbeaten run from last season. Like most seasons Arsenal were top of the table till January last season but a mid season struggle saw them finishing 10 points behind eventual winners Leicester City. The 2nd place finish however was the first time they broke into the top 2 after a gap of 10 years.

Liverpool

Despite a disappointing 8th place finish in the league last season, Jurgen Klopp has done well in his time with Liverpool. Taking over from Brendan Rodgers in October last season, Klopp lead the Reds to the League Cup final and Europa Cup final but lost both of them.

The Club do not have any European obligations this season and are expected to grab atleast a top 4 finish. The Merseysiders have been one of the more busier club in the transfer window this season with as many as 6 new signings joining their squad.

Like Arsenal, Liverpool come into this game with a fair amount of injury concerns of their own. New signings Karius, Grujic and Matip are all in the injury list joined by Lucas Leiva and Mamadou Sakho. The duo of James Milner and Daniel Sturridge are also doubtful against Arsenal with heel and hip troubles respectively. The positives though are the potential debuts of Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane, two of Klopp’s big money signing this summer.

Liverpool’s last win away to Arsenal came in August 2011. It’s their only away victory against Arsenal in 15 years.

Liverpool come into this game as the highest scorers in the league this calendar year (41). Liverpool have failed to finish among the top 4 in 6 of their last 7 seasons. 2013/14 being the only exception when they finished 2nd behind Manchester City.
